Angela Faye Martin began writing songs in her late teens. In the ensuing years, she sang and played mostly in Georgia-based bands. After forfeiting the struggle of keeping bands together, she returned to solo songwriting and performing. After an effort to carve herself a niche in the Atlanta music scene, she left the city to live in the mountains of north Georgia, where she worked in forest conservation for seven years. In 2003, Angela moved to western North Carolina to write songs again.
Ashley Long has been playing music since she was 6 years old. "I took up the acoustic guitar about two-and-a-half years ago and started writing songs," she says. " I perform live on occasion but as a college student haven't had much time to get out and about in the Asheville area yet. I have participated two years in a row in the Acoustic Battle of the Singer/Songwriters in Morristown, Tennessee, and play open mics on occasion when I can get to them."
Auricular is a dark ambient/drone ambience artist based in Fairview. "It is an experiment in ambient music and noise, meant to disturb you and keep you wide awake, or lull you into a deep sleep where you'll wish you'll never wake. It all depends on your mood and how you take this type of audible journey. Everyone has their own unique experience with ambience, whether they listen in solace alone during the night with headphones, or have it playing in the background where you only notice it subconsciously."
"We don't strive to recreate the music scene, we simply play music from our hearts and music that we love." Autumn Rising formed in the summer of 2004, with Dustin Harrell on drums, Greg Morgan on vocals and guitars, and Corey Gurganious on bass. They began writing songs several months later. In the summer of 2005, Gurganious left the band, which joined up with Bucky McCann on guitar. A couple of months later, Daniel Shaneyfelt completed the lineup with bass.

Out of a desire for a change of scenery and a departure from the turbulent distraction of urban hustle, Bandazian songwriters Alex Keena and Ricky Powderly packed their bags and headed west in search of creative inspiration. While Iowa, the destination of the 1100 mile journey, seemed an unassuming locality, it never-the-less proved to be just the change that was needed to record Bandazian's debut album.

Jazz pianist and composer Chuck Lichtenberger performs under his own name and also along the east coast with Stephanie's Id and sometimes with the Goodies, Menage, Jen and the Juice, and Ruby Slippers. Jim has been performing professionally since 1973. The singer-songwriter's work has been praised in such magazines as Dirty Linen, Record World, Billboard, and Bluegrass Unlimited. From 1976 to 1987, he and Gerry Stone led the Nashville-based Taylor & Stone Band, a six-piece country-rock outfit that toured throughout the United States and Europe, releasing 11 singles and two albums of original songs.

MarsupiaL's improvisational rock, otherwise known as electrogroovin'-psychofusion, is native to Asheville and all of its eclectic and progressive musical culture. The band has been heard all over the Southeast in the past five years at over 300 shows in venues like The Orange Peel, Stella Blue, and the Flat Rock Music Festival. During that time, MarsupiaL has shared the stage with venerable acts such as Schleigho, Bloodkin, Hobex, Strut, Deep Blue Sun, Melvin Seals & the Jerry Garcia Band.
Mary Ellen Bush and Sarah McDonald are the talents that merged to form “Ménage,” a band whose intimate, harmonic landscapes echo the authenticity of Emmylou Harris, the Indigo Girls, and Neil Young. Ménage has folk-rooted melodies wrapped in a bluesy swing, conveyed in grooves ranging from smoky, rollicking roadhouse, to dreamy, three-quarter waltz.

Mother Vinegar is a four-piece rock band from Asheville who played their first concert on August 28, 2005, and already have a rotation of 34 original songs. After their debut concert, promoter Andrew Hoover of Smoky Mountain Productions offered them a headlining gig at the Roxaway Music Festival on the spot. Less than two months later, the band opened for Umphrey’s McGee. The group also headlined “The Return of the Rock” with the SeepeopleS and hosted a moe aftershow concert in December.

The Story of On the Take - A Collection of Memories - Chad Pry and Joshua Carpenter met in 1999 when they began playing in the new-wave/proto-punk/electro-clash band Piedmont Charisma. Like all bands, Piedmont Charisma had its shortcomings, and even though they were immensely popular and wildly successful, the band decided to call it quits because they were all addicted to amphetamines and could no longer bear the company of one another.

Singer-songwriter David LaMotte is packing up his family and moving to Brisbane, Australia, to pursue a master's degree in international relations, peace and conflict resolution at University of Queensland. The longhaired, sweet-faced poet was one of the leaders of the early songwriting scene in the mountains that included other open-tuning guitar wizards like David Wilcox and Chuck Brodsky.

The local singer-songwriter/keyboardist delights much in going against the grain, and in being challenging to pin down stylistically, as evidenced by her album title, “Orange Thread in a Blue Sea.” She's put together a talented new band and has a forthcoming follow-up CD scheduled for release in early 2009. West and company take the stage at Bobo this Saturday for an intimate performance among friends and fans.
